Gado-gado

Gado-gado is one of the foods that come from Java in the form of vegetables are boiled and blended into one, with peanut sauce or sauce of crushed peanuts with sliced ​​egg and fried onions sprinkled on top. Slightly fried chips or crackers (some are taking prawn crackers) are also added.

Nasi lalap is a popular food among the society's of Sabah especially in Tawau. Lalap is mean salad (ulam) because before its been popular the only side dishes is only salad (ulam). Sanggar peppek (tapped fried banana)


Sanggar Peppek is come from bugis food menu in Tawau, Sabah where the young banana peel, then fried until half cooked, then slowly whisk in until squashed oval long & thin, then fried again until cooked. Named "Sanggar peppek in conjunction with the pronunciation in bugis, if in malay called" fried banana squashed "Sanggar (banana fritters) Peppek (squashed). Sanggar peppek is more delicious eaten with tomato sauce. It is a nice combination with the tantalizing aroma of tomatoes that make it is popular.

Coto Banjar (soto banjar)

 


Soto Banjar is a special soto for Banjar tribe, South Kalimantan.This food introduce in Tawau because Banjar tribe migrate to this district. As you can see from the picture soto banjar is appetizing that's why its popular. Beside the main ingredients is chicken and aromatic spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves that make the taste delicious. Soup is contains chicken meat already shredded, with extra bergedel or boiled potatoes, boiled eggs, and ketupat or buras give it extra appetizing.

Soto Makasar (Coto Makassar)

 

One of popular food in Tawau, Sabah. Coto Makassar or coto Mangkasara is an Indonesian culinary food this food is been introduce by makassarese live in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Found from this site here. On the other site claim that Coto Makassar existence is unknown. 

What make this food popular is its ingredient. The main ingredients is beef and it can be mixed with innards such as intestine, liver, lungs, heart, tripe, or cow brain. And much better when served with burasak or ketupat


Burasak

Burasak is a kind of rice-based foods like ketupat and nasi himpit, but wrapped in banana leaves, just like lontong and the shape is rectangular (round lontong). If lontong is synonymous with Java, burasak is more synonymous with buginese (Bugis).

Buras is a traditional ethnic foods form of steaming rice with coconut milk wrapped in banana leaves. Buras also known as burasak, but  burasak not beaten. Buras is usually served on the Eid and Hari Raya Haji as the food is the main food for the festive for buginese. Buras is served with ayam masak likku, bejabuk and ayam masak merah.
